First website EVER created?

I was on archives.org before and was wondering... "what was the first website"? I tried a search on google and found nothing... Just a thought

Since the creation of the internet was an evolution, I think you'll be hard pressed to find the "first website ever created".

Maybe do a Google search for Al Gore?

Just a week ago, I ran across an older article deep in the bowels of an old "early" website, it discussed the first webpage ever made publically available (you have to define what consitiutes public availability.... he referred to web pages under arpanet, which was long before WWW.}somewhere.com).

That article said 'long gone'.

They evolved rather than appeared, the first web pages couldn't handle graphics, or links and so were nothing more than ANSI pages. they then added some formatting info and tabs, and the hyperlink came along. It wasn't a spontaneous thing.

Geotpf: Not what I had in mind, but that link is pretty good too.

nukes: Yup. I remember surfing in the early 90s with Mosaic 1.0 (Hey! trivia time!), and seeing a web page which said that graphics content could be handled for the first time, check back later that week, when the standard is finalized. Might have been a dead site, but were talking trying to remember something from nearly 10 years ago.

Trivia: Whatever became of Mosaic? Hint, it is not retired!

Check the attached image after you guess what happened to Mosaic.

Send a message via ICQ to Creatures
it would be easier to ask for the first LAN ever (US Army!)
or who created the Internet (somewhere in lausanne: CH)

BTW it would be cool to find the first page ever!
