Windows XP Boot Problem

When I boot Windows XP recently, the PC stalls and the Windows XP logo with the moving bar doesn’t go away. I’ve been getting it to boot by going into safe mode and running the XP Service Pack 1 disk. This seems to get it to reboot on the next try but will not work after that. The system is an AMD CPU with a KT7A-RAID.

In the Event Viewer there was
Event Type: Error
Event Source: EventSystem
Event Category: (50)
Event ID: 4609

Description:
The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cp p.

However, the active boot disk is C and there is no d:\nt\ directory.

Any ideas?

WEll, im having an issue also

NOt quite the same as yours, but i am running a K7t TURBO-R 133A.

Anyways, I can boot up no problem, i get the exact same error as you do. Event 4609

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cp p.

And the thing that it doesnt allow me to do, is UPDATE my windows anymore using WIndows update. among other hardware quirks.

Ive never had this problem before and all my other machines work fine. Its not my harddrive, ive tried 3. Swapped out everyother peice of hardware too..has to be the mother board...but that doesnt make sense!@!! ARGHH

Im also getting this error...Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine CoCreateInstance. hr = 0x80040206.

but i disabled the service as i dont need it.

WEll any ideas on windows updates?
btw, my copy of xp is legit..so that makes no sense, its not cuz its pirated either...!>?!?!

argghh.
help

I would try reinstalling XP. My problem has gone away and it allows me to update the system whenever MS issues one.

I believe my problem stemed from the NVIDA driver. Once I updated it, the PC gave me no more problems.

Yep that was the problem, was set at march 2002. There was a time stamp error. imediatley after i changed the time, it updated. So keep that in mind when updating. Ive installed in total, 5 OS's that was the prob.

Believe it.

Windows XP-I am getting the Event ID 4609, it's not a time issue. Did anyone else resolve this issue . It doesn't exist in a search of Microsoft's Knowledge Base... but obviously many of us are having this problem.
