Systems Isass.exe system error--XP won't boot

Hello,

I have a windows XP (With service pack 1) and it has been working fine for for the last couple of days...YEah! None of those SP1 horror stories for me! but when I turn on my computer this morning right before the login screen would come up, I get: "Isass.exe - System Error. An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function."

If I click OK, my computer reboots and this creates a horrible cycle...hmmm error...ok...reboot..maybe it will wor...no there's the error again...OK...reboot maybe it wil wor..no there's the error.

The same process for all of the advanced booting options. No safe mode, no last known good, nadda.

I used the winXP CD to start the automated recovery, but apparently this has changed from the Win2000 recovery that I have used before. It starts working, then reboots the computer. On startup I get the windows install screen just like I'm doing a fresh install...I thought "OK..they changed it a little..I'm OK with that so long as it works" Then *BAM* Isass.exe - eyetem error. An invalid parameter was passes to a service or function.

now instead of almost getting to windows and getting the error, I am get "restarting installation," the installation screen then the error.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

KBTibbs

Welcome to the SP1, this happens on any WinXP system, I heard you'd have to re-install Windows, unless anyone has found crazy fixes for em.

The only way to fix it is through recovery console or full system restore

I just started having this happen today. Haven't changed anything. booted my PC and it got to right before the login screen then rebooted. I was getting the lsass.exe error, I did a last known good configuration and that got the lsass error to go away but now it just consistantly reboots there. Any ideas without a complete wipe? I would really rather not lose all my e-mail/favorites, etc.
Thanks - Bryan

Have you tried System Restore? Just a thought. And is the copy of XP legit? I've know a couple of people that are usin' a hacked copy, and they started havin' problems shortly after they installed SP1.
