i'd go with the lower priced system and spend the extra $$$ on a firewire harddrive if you need more storage. What do you use the laptop for? Me, I'd use it for web-design on the go...hook it up to a monitor at home to do the main stuff, and then make any necessary changes while with a client. And the firewire drive will help keep your data and programs seperate without partitioning.

freakyOCR had a good point. that alien ware is going to suck the battery dry very fast. my Hp omnibook gets about 2 hours or so. my friends toshiba (nice laptop) gets 90min. but mine has a P3 mobile his has a desktop P3. and weight is a thing you really want to think about. i don't think my laptop is THAT heavy but lugging it around school all day in a case gets heavy. i think mine is 7-8 pounds.

and if i could get a new laptop now i'd look in to thoes Sager ones at www.powernotebooks.com they look rather nice.

i was considering getting the Alienware laptop, but then i stumbled on www.powernotebooks.com. I recommend you look on that site, it has WONDERFULL service, and at affordable prices, for the exact same product that Alienware offers(minus the 400 dollar paint job). The SagerNP5660 is the same laptop as the Alienware, but i also recommend you take a look at the Sager NP8882. If you can wait till the end of October, the 8882 will have a ATI9000 graphics chip and USB 2.0. It also supports up to 3 internal hard drives, and has 2PCMCIA slots. This is the main reason I'm getting it. The NP5660/Area51m only have 1 TypeII PCMCIA slot, and has NO support for TypeIII PCMCIA. PCMCIA compatibility may not be important to you, but it is one of the first things I look at
