For all of you Hercules Game Theatre XP sound card owners running Windows XP here's a heads up.
Do not install the offered Hercules driver update offered at the M$ Update site! .
Or, I suppose you can if you want to reformat

.
I had just spent the past couple of days doing a fresh install of XP Home on my XP partition in my spare time. I had all of my proggies, tweaks, etc., done and only the Windoze updates left at 6am this morning and then Ghost it. I did the SP1 update (which took 2 hours on broadband). I went back to the update site after rebooting and installed all of the other offered updates - 1 of which was the sound card driver. That was a new one on me but I figured, 'kay, M$ knows more than Hercules and go ahead.
I wound up without my soundcard working.
Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the XP patch and drivers won't work - even when done in safe mode. I'm sure there may be a way to do this but any time I've run into the problem it's easiest to spend the next 10 Hours formatting and reinstalling everything

- which I did and now I'm about an hour away from being where I was this am at 6

.
Do you think if I sent Bill a Bill for what I charge for my time I'd get a payment?
Seems to me I did something similar to this some 6 months ago. A few days before I was reading a thread here that was along this subject line about someone doing a Windoze update and just checked everything and did the updates. It serves my memory that it installed an Intel chipset driver update and they had an AMD system. I'll do a search for the thread when I'm finished with this major fubar.
So, like an idiot, a few days after that I did the same thing - forgetting all about the thread and crashed me ME partition

.
Y'all be carefull in installing what the M$ Update site offers after the security stuff. I'd of like to seen Bill and his update team behind the woodshed this morning.
FYI,
Mike
