Invalid System Disk, please replace and press any key.

Ever seen that before, sure, pull out the floppy disc and go onward.

Not this time.

Got a very good running trade with Winderz ME

Every 3rd or 4th boot I get the "Invalid System Disc"

Ran Scandisk on thorough and auto fix errors.
defrag for sure also.

The scandisk said there were no errors on the drive.

Should I get a W98 boot disc and run scandisk from DOS to look for bad sectors ?

ideas ?

Originally I found a bad end on the power supply feed cable to the drive, it was very loose and could fall out.

Removed it and then attempted a New ribbon cable. Seated fully on both ends.

The CD had the jumper on master even it was positioned on the slave plug, the HD and CD are on different IDE's

Failing HD controller would be my first guess. 2nd guess would be failing HD.

I would move that HD into a known good computer and see if it gets a similar error within several tries.

I could only guess and that would be: not unless it reflects that the controller is having problems.

Agree with DVNT1, suspect controller issues.

IRQ for PCI steering....that usually shows up when the chipset drivers need to be loaded.

Maybe a combo of the both....missing lastest chipset drivers causing resource allocation problems with onboard controller.

Running the WD "Diagnostic" found errors and fixed them.

A dozen boots without errors, so far. Hopefully it's fixed.

Thanks
