I am on DSL and I am lucky to get 400k - but that's the only service provider in our area and it bets dial up...

I'm sure it DOES depend on the ISP. @home was decent, ATTBI is better now but not so good when they first took over. We here in the SF Bay Area enjoy Reliable cable service at 10 Mbits (max).

If I had to go on line with a standard 56K modem I would simpley fall asleep.
I've seen DSL at a friends house ... good ... but
Cable Rocks !!!!

When I was gaming on-line playing strategy games with high end graphics ... no one ... and I do mean *no one* had pings as high as mine ... except, of course, other cable subscribers.

I have had DSL since 2000 and have never had a major outage or anything. I have recommended DSL to all of my relatives and friends that ask.

I also have had family member who went with cable and its been horrible. They have nad no connection for like 4 days straight then they have to call and get it running again.

Now with DSL i get 1.5mbps max download and i ratehr have a stable 1.5 than an unstable 3mbps and have it drop down to sluggish dialup speeds. i've seen cable go a lot faster but i would personally get DSL.

It all depends on your ISP. But I would recommend DSL.

Your choice.

in san diego, cable is capped at 256kbps (i envy those whose cable is capped at 1.5mbps, here in sd, only T1 gives you that)
BUT....and this is a big BUT: most of the time typical DL speed
is 7 - 17 kbps, barely faster than dialup. only in the middle of the night is anywhere near 256kbps available. say for ex., from
10 pm to 6 am. this is using cox.net.
=====dsl, on the other hand, offers a uniform speed
24 hours a day. imho, if your choices are dsl or cox.net,
got with dsl. if you choice is cox.net or dialup, go with dialup.
cox.net is not worth 1 cent more than dialup during the hours
i use it.

OOps !!! My bad.
Upon further research I discovered that 3Mbps is the speed of my internet connection.

>Edited to have *truthful* content.<

(but it still rocks !!!!!)
