Is it usefull under normal conditions to do things (directional cooling, aux fans, vented spaces/drawers etc) to cool HDDs, or it is all a bunch of hype? My sys is a PII, not OCed.
I'm running a 750 AMD T-bird with 2 WD drives in it. I have a CPU HSF. and One case fane. The drives are in the caes one on top of the other wit hthe floppy drive on top, (only 3 bays in the case) I've ran it like this for well over a year, no problem other than my MOBO quit, but it was a POS anyway But I think the 7200 rpm drives are more of an issue, or if you do a lot of gaming, which I don't

Thanks brainchild Yes, gaming, and simulcasting my music on top of games too.
2 ROMs running constantly SDRAM under constant load & HDD is accessed quite frequently .... of course 7200 rpm HDDs .... Your answer is, "YES" I would presume?

My point ~ I slipped out a HDD a while ago, and even with the hot-swap drawer fan blowing on it; it was *quite hot* to the touch. This *is* or *is not* an issue?

Any hard-core "modders" care to reply?

Also, are there any pre-Mfg. filter bays/vents/whatever available, or do I just do my own thing?

If your harddrive is hot to the touch, then heat is an issue. There are a few different ways to solve this problem. In most lian li cases the harddrive cage mounts to the floor of the case right in front of intake fans. I couldnt tell you about all the 3rd party HD cooling products that are on the market and how they work, but generally just a fan should take care of your problems. If the case you choose doesnt have a place for a fan where air would flow over the HD you might want to consider researching those a bit more.

OK Mead,

Then I guess I will be using quarter spaced 5.25" filtered breather bays between my HDDs. Maybe I'll "shoud" them and put an exhaust fan ducted out ..... a good project for my AutoCAD 2002 class I started tonight ..... I have ver 12, 13 & 14 but I thought some proferssional training might open some new doors.

And for those who offered their insight .... THANKS !!!

"The noise" was the drawer .... <Yippie> .... *not* the HDD.
