AdAware is not nearly as effective as it once was, same with Spybot S&D. The pay version of AdAware is much easier to use than the freeware version, so you might want to fork out some coin.

I have found that Spysweeper is very good, both as a removal tool and a preventer. It ain't free, but you need to pay for quality.

Hijack This is an excellent diagnostic tool as well.

I have used almost all of the known spyware programs and some that are not known and believe it or not, there really is no best spyware and adware scanner, you should use at least two together because some detect stuff that others dont, but the best one in my opinion is webroot spy sweeper, its very slow but it detects the most stuff, adaware is good too but spybot is better, and spyware doctor finds a lot of stuff many others dont so i use them all once in a while. Hope this helps.

ADAWARE + SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY = NO PROBLEMS

Also consider switching over to Mozilla's Firefox browser...I used to be on IE and got thumped with pop-ups and trojans and bots of all kinds...switched to Firefox and it has not shown a pop-up yet!

I recommend using both Ad-Aware & Spybot. Spyblaster is also helpful at blocking some spyware from getting on your system. If you have some nasty tenacious malware that you can't get rid of, try Adware-Away. It's the best at removing the worst of the malware such as about:blank & more.
