What to do with an upset Ebayer?
Not sure if this is the best place to post but here goes. I auctioned a P133 laptop and described its problems in the item description as well as 'AS-IS' twice in the same description.
" This thing boots to Win98 but likes to randomly reboot and the mouse freezes occasionally. It has gotten bad enough to where I don't use it now."
That(in a nutshell) is how I described it and now the guy says he tried to reload 98 on it and it doesn't work. He hasn't asked for his money back yet but I figure that is coming. Along with a negative feedback. I figured somebody might want it for parts because physically it was in great shape. I honestly feel like he got it thinking I was an idiot and that he could fix it. But now that he can't he is upset.
Anyone with a similar experience?

That's what I was just thinking. He thought you didn't know enough to reload windows. He thought he'd get it for a song, reload windows and have a perfectly good laptop. Last time I heard, as is means ...as is. What an idiot.

Can you give feedback to his feedback and explain to anyone willing to read what the problem is?

I do feel bad but I did not describe it as some cherry. I knew it had a problem that I did not want to mess with and I described it that way. If a negative feedback is left I can leave a response to it....but it is still a red mark against you.
I know if I see AS-IS on something I am buying it will atleast make me think twice about it. Car, Mobo, CPU, or a laptop. Heck especially a laptop because the parts aren't readily avaiable.

My wife does eBay alot... and I mean alot of eBay, if your rating is high enough, one negative wont hurt it, especially if you explain what happened in your reply to their review... but, if this is your first deal, perhaps first 15 even, the negative review may hurt you a bit in future sales. My wife has a feedback rating of 669 with 2 negatives and they don't seem to hurt her sales at all.
edited cause my fingers didn't want to work

provided that your item description clearly stated the problems with the laptop, then you are not obligated to refund his money. i would gently point that out to him. in the future, you should state that all sales are final.
and if he still wants a refund, then the burning question becomes: does getting one negative feedback outweigh the money you got from the sale?
that's your call to make. if you do decide to give him his money back, i would defiitely deduct the closing fees, shipping, etc. perhaps 50% of the bid less the forementioned fees???

Hello:
Just curious. Did you include in the description recommended for parts only or to be repaired?

OK here it is exactly:
This laptop is being sold AS IS. It boots to Win98 just fine but for some reason it wants to reboot when bumped or nudged. The mouse has locked up a couple times and that may related to the same problem. It worked great just a month ago. This may be a simple fix for someone or at the very least great for parts as it is physically in pretty good shape. The screen has no cracks or defects. The only cosmetic defect is a loose faceplate on the CD-Rom. It is a P133 that comes with CD-Rom, Floppy Drive, 1.4gig Hard Drive, 40MB Ram and AC Adaptor. Again this is being auctioned AS-IS. I personally do not have the expertise to work on it so I do not know how serious or simple the problem may be. I accept Paypal, Money Order and Cashiers Check. Good Luck

Looks to me like you aren't at fault at all... simple as that one line frees you of all fault...
this laptop is being sold as is
end of story
I would apologize if the buyer feels cheated and point them at your description, then tell them there is nothing you can do...
edited 'cause neodave beat me to the punch
