Strange Icon in Add/Remove list

I don't know if this a big deal or not. But in my Add/Remove program list. The Icon for QuakeIII is a ATT-Bell Icon, MS Word icon is the Serious Sam Icon. And there's a couple of other strange ones that are like that.

OS XP Pro.

Thanks for any sugguestions

Sounds like a bug
I'd also suggest kickin' the PC with a big boot

If you go into your start menu do the shortcuts have the proper icons?
Maybe your icon associations got toasted somehow

TweakUI had a "repair icon" function within it that allowed you to rebuild your icon cache, not sure if its the same in XP tho...

Ugh.. the first time I used the repair icons thing, I ended up having to re-repair my icons everytime I rebooted

I've restarted and there the same. All the programs seem to work fine. So is it anything to worry about?

My WinME system gets all confused sometimes with which icon goes with which file (and what type of file), so pictures look like zip folders and word documents look like exe files (or whatever). It doesn't affect the files, and it disappears after a reboot. My take would be to ignore it, as it doesn't cause any problems with my computer.

I guess standard advice would be to run a virus scan also.

Send a message via ICQ to SickPup404
For 95 all the way through 2000, the "big hammer" fix is to delete the "ShellIconCache" file. It's a hidden file, and there's NO extension. Then change your desktop color depth. This will force a rebuild of the icons.
