first I would like to say that you got ripped off by ordering an Alienware computer. They make incredible systems and you'll be most happy with it, but they charge way way way too much.
Secondly, I painted black flames onto the same case you are talking about.
its a ChiefTec case, Alienware mods them and adds their logo down the left front panel.
The entire case will come off the chasis, so just work with it to get it off.
DO NOT NOT NOT paint your case with components in it, YOU WILL ruin them theres no way around it.
Good luck, the pic of the mailbox looks sweet.

Wow, nailzie, take it easy on this guy! Jeeze, he hasn't even received his box yet. Oh I get it, maybe there's time to cancel the order!!!!!
Excellent advice on the painting, though.
A friend at work was telling me about using auto paint to do a box. He said you mix the paint (with or without the clear coat) and load it in a little plastic jar, then attach a little disposable sprayer that acts like an airbrush. Anyone have more details? I know diddly about paintwork...

Knothead, I was wanting ideas, but after thinking about it, I don't have the time nor the resources to do any painting.

Glad you came to your senses on building your own box, but shouldn't that of freed up the cash to paint a couple of flames?
Inquiring minds want to know...

Since nearly all computers have expansion slots that are intended to have cards plugged into them, it would be kind of silly for them to say that you can't open the case. Most pre-builts have seals to indicate that they have been opened, but it doesn't void your warantee to break the seal.

Heehee, Ragtop, it's true! I still have a Compaq that had little tiny metallic stickers on the back, wrapping around to the side.
If those little seals were broken, it voided the warranty. True story. |

I'd like to hear from anyone that has actually been turned down for a warantee repair just because they opened the case.
H-P and Gateway have the same stickers on them, but I've had no problem getting warantee service on both brands despite broken seals.
They probably want you to think that it will void your warantee - that way it deters the "average" user from messing things up inside. But the user manuals don't say anything about voiding the warantee if you open the case, and they even give you detailed instructions on how to open your case to install an expansion card.
Now, if they can prove that you broke something while you were inside the case, they can legitimately deny your claim. But not because you used the computer in a way that it was consistent with its design.
