Kids Video Failure

I have an award bios with Athlon XP1900+

Geforce 2MX200 Card Expert

For the past week , when I boot my system after it has been off, I get one long beep and 2 short beeps which means video failure. Computer won’t boot. After about 5 or 6 tries it finally boots and runs fine for days, until I turn off and next boot attempt.

Is this a bad card? How do I tell? Why does it work fine when it does boot up?

I have been thinking of upgrading my video card anyway, but I would like to know if the card is bad. Any info would help, thanks.

Sounds like a possibility. Only way to really tell would be to try a different card in its place.

Have you tried re-seating the videocard? Do you have anything in the first PCI slot under the AGP slot?

I have been having a similiar problem on one of my pcs. But it will continue to start . I was told to make sure the card is seated properly, maybe pull it out , re-insert it. Otherwise we might be shopping together!!!!

Yes I re-seated the card, actually I took all of the cards out and gave everything a good dusting with some canned air and still the same results.

had a problem a few years back that looked similar to this and i thought it was a video card problem but actualy was a failing power supply. Took a while to spot that one.

Are you overclocking?
If so, go back to stock speed as a test.
I have also seen a few cases where poor contacts were to blame.

See if someone has a cheap AGP card they will let you borrow - just to make sure the AGP slot isn't bad on the board.

Sounds like the card isn't receiving enough voltage at boot. Try altering the AGP timing value in the BIOS to DA / EA / or even FF, if you even have that feature.
