anyone familiar with Intel CC820 Mobo

this board had some probs at it's inception. the prob now is when we're trying to upgrade from 128 to 256 meg it goes crazy. BSOD's (blue screen), spontaneous reboot, illegal operation errors, fatal exception errors, lockups/crash in game (half life/cs), lost connection to the internet (cable connection), then when we go back to 128 it's fine. the original ram is samsung pc100 doubleside. we added PNY single side pc 100(128mb), then PNY double side pc 100(128mb) and got the above probs. i yanked some pc100 ram out of an old sys i had and while the probs were less, it still acts up....anyone ever have this prob?

it dosen't lock up with just the original 128mb Ram..right?
it dose lock up with the original and the new 128mb PNY..right?

Did u try it with just the PNY memory?
Have you flashed the BIOS on the mobo?

PNY is not the best memory IMO.. Actually the worst brand if you ask me. i would try some better memory also.

try these

Also..i thought the 820 chip was rambus only. it was for the PIII and celerons wasnt it?

Have you seen THIS?
Quote:
Intel has identified some boards with the MTH component that may reboot intermittently or cause the system to hang during operation. This issue does not impact boards or systems using the Intel® 820 chipset with RDRAM* memory, boards or systems shipped before November 1, 1999 or mobile computer boards or systems of any kind (laptops, notebooks, etc.).

it was built locally and there was an issue with it running pc133 at the time. hence the use of pc100. i don't know if it was designed for rdram, hell pc 133 was the newest thing going then (1999). it's my bro's sys and would like to solve the ram issue so we can get back to fraggin....

I looked a little more and it seems they let some bad boards out. There is a utility you can get at the link I provided that will check your board for this defect as I understand it.

It's not a full blown recall but, they were asking you to return your board to where you bought it for replacement. Might be interesting to see if your board is one of the boards effected.

if we leave it at 128mb (original ram) then all is good. but the minute we add the other 128 it goes crazy...

sys specs are:
Windows 98SE
Pentium III 600mhz
VisionTek GeForce 3 Ti200
Intel CC820 Mobo (2 banks for memory)
256mb ram PC100 SDRAM (currently)

It just detects whether or not your board is effected.
