Switched CPUs and now Mobo won't boot

I flashed the bios a couple weeks ago on my Abit KG7Raid in preparation for the purchase of an XP1900+. The flash seemed to go fine. I used the computer for the last two weeks without a problem. I switched out the CPUs and selected the XP in the bios. It posted but wouldn't go past the collecting DMA pool data screen.( I think that was the terminology). Played around a little, checked my connections, etc and the same thing. Locked up at the collecting or verifying screen. Thought I had a bad XP. Put my 1.2 Athlon back in and it did the same thing. Toward the end of my attempts it wouldn't even POST. My connections are good and my bios settings are correct. What gives? Anyone had this problem? I have never overclocked so that can be ruled out. The Bios Flash went fine. The date changed and XP was an option in the bios now.

Is my board toast?

Have you tried resetting the bios?

Curious what you meant when you said "selected the XP in bios."

When I swapped cpu's (1.2/200 TBird --> XP21200+) I just had to make sure I was in "jumper free" mode (I had been OC'ing my 1.2/200 to 1.4/266 via jumpers).

With no bios changes, the mobo (Asus A7V133) recognized the new cpu.

Regarding the "no post" problem, a few weeks back I U/G'ed to an EPoX 8K3A+ mobo/new DDR ram, and just could not get it to post. I eventually removed everything but vid card, ram, and cpu/HS/fan. Ultimately, it turned out that the molex connector to my DVD-ROM drive had partially pulled out (wasn't really noticeable), and when the DVD-ROM IDE connector was plugged into the mobo... the damn thing just wouldn't post beyond ID'ing the cpu and ram.

Sure, in retrospect it was dumb and maybe obvious... try removing everything except the bare minimum and see if you can post, then add things back in one at a time.

Good luck,
jmichna

That is the funny thing. The screen it gets stuck on shows everything being detected. As for selecting in the bios, the bios gives you the option of XP1600+ through XP2100+. Or you can do a user select for manually telling it what you got. From memory...I don't believe there is a default or system defined option anymore. I pretty much did the same thing. Pulled everything out. I even put in different vid card, cpu, left the lan card out, left the sound card out, etc. No help though. It's all to coincidental though.

Oh and there aren't any jumpers.
