got a quick newbie question
im in the process of buying a new computer (p4 2.0Ghz) , i went with the p4 cause the price was the same as the amd xp2000+ and heard the OCing potential of the p4 NORTHWOOD was alot greater than the amd. so went back to my retailer and asked if the p4 chip i was planing on purchasing had a NORTHWOOD core, simple enough question you'd think, but after he discussed it with his co-workers they came to the conclusion that "they dont know". They told me they only use the most recent chip sets and the 2.0Ghz i was buying was actually a p4 2.0 A. so i guess my question is: is the P4 2.0 A a northwood core?
thanks for any replies

Welcome to TechIMO!!!
Read this:
Intel Pentium 4 (Northwood) 2.0AGHz http://www.xbitlabs.com/cpu/northwood-2200/ Quote: |
In order to distinguish between Pentium 4 (Northwood) 2GHz and Pentium 4 (Willamette) 2GHz, Intel decided to call its newly born baby Pentium 4 2AGHz
| That should do it!

I'm assuming you're using NewEgg for most, if not all, of your purchases?
Also, if you're only going to have 1 hard drive and 1 CD-ROM, why do you want to spend extra $ on a RAID board?
I'm also assuming you're going with PC2100 DDR?

the mem is PC2100. actually im just using a local retailer, compared their prices to online retailers and they are a bit more expensive but after the massive shipping charges to Canada my local store seems the best route. they also service all their machines for free at there retail location for 3 years so no shipping is a big plus. the total cost for the custom machine plus windows Xp home (full assembly and software installation) is about $1700 Cnd dollars, which if im right works out to about $1100 US.

Again I must ask...why go with a RAID board if you're not going to be using that feature or taking advantage of having 2 extra IDE ports?

hmm, i wonder if Abit has a BD7 board without RAID...
if not what mobo would you suggest? i went with the Abit because of the easy OCing through their bios.
