So far amdmb.com is the only place ive heard of thats gotten a good overclock on any of the thoroughbreds. But they did which means it can be done. I wouldnt rush out and buy one of the first batches of thoroughbreds though. Id buy the best Palamino I could afford for right now and wait till more good results with the thoroughbred start popping up.

Sounds like good advice Mead.

For the mobo, I'd advise the Epox 8K3A or the 8K3A+ (includes on-board RAID). It's based on the VIA KT333. My board is the 8KHA+, which is their model based on the KT266A chipset. Been a real good board for me and lots of other guys as well.

Oh, and for the RAM... get Crucial. Nothing's better. And if you want to help out TechIMO a bit, go there through the ad here at TechIMO.

I don't think you should buy a palomino now and wait til a tbred. I think people should just wait a for a later stepping. I think hardocp.com got a good oc out of their tbred as well, but I forgot. For KT333 boards, I also recommend the KX7-333. It just plains owns .

Thanks guys for the info. I going to get the amd 2200+(not looking to over clock). It was the best price $210 for PIB.And a asus a7v333 with raid. Now @ 100 gigs HDD.

One more ?. About ram. I been reading about ti a little. I know i want to go with pc2700 ddr.But what is the difference between
CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • ECC • 7.5ns • 2.5V • 64Meg x 72 CL=2.5 • Registered • ECC • 7.5ns • 2.5V • 64Meg x 72 . I guess the main thing is what is unbuffered and registered. Thanks for the the info.

hmm, i didn't know it was out. basically it's the speed it runs at (kinda). what you need is pc2700 so that it will run at 333mHz, the same as your mobo. pc3200 is (correct me if i'm wrong) 400mHz which doubles to 800 which matches RDR.
