Samba is only for linking windows and linux, not for checking network settings. If you want to link windows and linux, Samba is the best tool for that. SATAN-for-linux can do some interesting things for checking your network security, though. I used to run it on RH 7.1, but lost it in a re-install somewhere. More info on SATAN-for-linux here: http://www.fish.com/satan/summary.html

What version of SATAN-for-linux did you d/l? You may have a corrupted tarball or an incompatibility. Try http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/packages/...tan-for-Linux/ for the latest version.

Interesting thread title BTW. I feel Fingers glaring at it..... ;D

mickwish heh, thanx lol, come to think about it, it is kinda interesting. satan on linux! LOL..
about the docs, i already read those, the problem about satan, i couldn't run it as root, "won't run netscape for security reasons". so i tried mozilla and lynx, still.. it runs, but is it usually slow? i just edited the $~/path.pl , however, it gives me the msg above "about portmapper". haven't solved this yet. hmmm another thing. i've tried downloading saint before CMonster check the above .. i wrote the commands for saint extraction, none of them work, unless i'm doing it the wrong way.
peace.
