Open a "rar" File??
Please help! I downloaded a game manual online.
It's a "rar" file.
No luck opening it so far...
What is a "rar" file and what program can/do I use to open it?
Thank's for any help!

WinRAR (like WinZip) is a compression utility. It also splits files. You can get it here:

I have been using Winace.. Some people tell me that's the same, and others tell me that's different...
Maybe I should check out winrar.

It is a similar program. There is a slight edge when comparing the size in Winrar's compression over Winace. They both split apps though and are similar speeds.

Another one is
www.alzip.com
which opens and extracts 30 different formats, including RAR, ZIP and ACE files.

i've had a few problems with alzip and others not been able to un-rar some files. Only winrar could do it properly. So have had to install it again
