This is from http://www-new.the-cloak.com/anonymo...fing-home.html (a link from the link posted in the beginning)... Quote:
HTTP and HTTPS anonymizing proxy: hide your identity from the sites you visit
Encrypted connection: hide your surfing from local snooping
Remote cookies: keep cookies at our site, and delete them after each session
User configurable content filtration: selectively remove Javascript, Java, etc.

I've tried sites like these before and still found that they can't always hide your IP. I have never tried this one, though. When I get home I'll try it out and see if it really works as advertised. If I find a site that can see my true IP, I'll get a screen capture.

I'm not vouching for any particular site. I'm just stating the proxy technology can/will hide your IP address unless your computer runs some code (like javascript) which asks your computer for it's IP address (hence why some services also filter java along with their proxy service offering).

You're most likely right about that, DVNT1.
Just remember newbie~wan, even if you use a proxy service, someone along the line always knows your IP. It's a tough trail to hide.

Yeah, it goes with the turf. I enjoyed reading the dialogue between M_six and DVNT1. I learned a thing or two.
As always, thanks for the responses. |

Just so you know, newbie~wan, I tried that proxy site DVNT1 listed, but I'm stuck on a 56K dialup and it was too slow to deal with. It'll probably work better with cable or DSL. That's another downside of remote proxies; they slow your surfing down.

as dvnt1 & m-six pointed out, those so-called "anonymous" proxy servicer sites which are people use merely "hide" (hide really isn't even the proper word for it) your personal ip from the 'destination' website. the proxy server DOES however record this information (your IP & time) and can produce it to the authorities if legal action is pursued...so be warned - you're not quite as anonymous as you might think.
the only true way (so far) of completely hiding your IP info is hijacking a remote machine and using it for a proxy...
yes, Tweedle...using an anonymous (outside) proxy will allow you to circumvent the block.
