Media player 8 dvd question

I have just recently got Win XP and upon looking at the help files on Media Player 8 it says I can play DVDs on it. And if I goto the options there will be a DVD tab here, where I can adjust my DVD options. Well I dont appear to have any DVD options on My Media Player 8. I have a Creative (yuk) 5x encore DVD player and a Real Magic Pro Hardware decoder.
I already play dvds on another app, but was jus interested in them working in Media Player 8 and these options.

Well I dont know what would be wrong, Im guessing it doesnt really have very much support for playing DVDs.

I can tell you that it has very little features and looks really bad.
I really like using PowerDVD.

yeah not a problem, I'm quite happy with my current software. BTW does Power DVD support the Realmagic Plus hardware encoder and Digital/ DTS encoding? Rather than its standard software encode?

Not sure, But Ive read a couple reviews comparing the to agaist each other. The RealMagic was better in both.

Hey Vert,

here is a page from the Microsoft KB on trouble shooting DVD playback in XP Media Player and here's their general site on DVD playback.

I never use WMA for DVD playback. I have PowerDVDxp and never use anything else. You might find that some of the free DVD players that rely on haveing a decoder installed will work with your decoder card if you don't like your current app.
