i use a stay sharp from marks a lot, it works fine, i only use labels on the improtant stuff.

Use a fine tip Black Laundry Marker...It works great. However, don't ever plan to remove the writing...it just don't come off.

That's because the label side is the most sensitive side of the cd as it's on that side of the plastic disk that the reflective layer is on.

I use those TDK pens too. I find them to be 'alright' the blue one I suppose is getting a lot of use and have to wait for the ink to run down the end of the nib sometimes.
