Do ya think its bad ?

it booted fine with just the vid card

also this is the new system I been waiting to build for a month and I ordered the 1600 xp which is supposed to be 1.4 gig but the system and sandra keep telling me its 1.05 gig do you think they sent me the wrong processor? How can I tell? will I be able to tell if I pull the heat sink off? the board is a k7s5a do you think it might be reading it wrong?

one other thing since the whole system is new how do I get into it to load anything cant seem to get to the a: prompt had to drag the little 1.2 gig hard drive with windows alredy on it to get it to work .

Easy questions for you guys

For your CPU, go into BIOS and set the processor speed up to 1.4 GHz. For some reason, some motherboards automatically slow down the CPU when you first start up. Its then necessary to fine-tune the BIOS to your system. The modem is a good question, I'd contact tech support and see what they say...they'll probabaly issue you an RMA.

sounds like you may have the jumpers set wrong on the HDD if it won't boot, double check them

harleycharlie,
When Windows loads on a System, it loads the drivers for that system and motherboard. ie PCI drivers, Brigde drivers, I/O controllers and alot of other stuff to alow windows to work for that motherboard. When you take 1 HD from one system and put it on another motherboard, Windows can get real confused about what drivers are needed to make it work on the new motherboard. I had this problem when going from an Intel 440BX based motherboard and putting my HD in a new system where the mobo was based on the Intel 815 chipset. It really had problems trying to load the new drivers but was still holding on to the old drivers. I finally had to do a fresh load of the OS on a clean HD. Going from one chipset based mobo to another is bound to cause confusion for the OS unless the systems are identical. I suggest trying to load the drivers for the motherboard or a fresh load of the OS on a clean HD.

Concerning the no A: prompt.
If your Floppy light on constantly, The cable may be on backwards.

Is your BIOS set for a 1.44 floppy?

Is your BIOS set to allow booting from Floppy?

goog luck,
cstierhoff

DANG ps the modem was toast I hate when they come that way and make me do all that extra exploring for nothing

thanks all

by the way anyone know why I would get a 1.05 ghz reading from a 1.4 gig athlon xp ?

geeze one more thing .. I see bios updates quite a few actually and each one seems to state something that it does are they all different or are those just added features to each version??

go into BIOS when your PC boots and change the FSB setting on the CPU PnP page... change the CPU frequency to 133 instead of 100
