how much does it cost to play Everquest online?

i don't actually plan to buy it but i heard that you have to pay a monthly fee just to play the damn thing. sounds pretty stupid compared to D2........anyway how much is it?

$10 a month after the first month. There is also a premium service that just launched for $40 per month called EverQuest Legends. It has even more quests, items and so on. I'm fine with paying $10 (£7) per month but $40? no way (though I think the Legends service is full now anyway until they setup another server).

EverQuest is like a drug.

Once you try it, you could easily get hooked... then you waste a lot of time and money feeding the addiction. Pretty soon, you lose your job, your skin turns pale, and you gain 150 pounds. hahahaha

j/k

I'm too cheap (and scared of the addiction) to try any of those subscriber type games. I think the game should be free upfront if they're going to charge you $10/month to use it.

Well, if so many people are subscribing to it, it must be good. That's why I say I'm afraid. I may be too tempted to subscribe and find some way of justifying the cost! haha...

"EverQuest is like a drug" amen to that, you constantly feel you're achieving/progressing (hence the nickname EverCrack). Though I don't work, my skin is already pale and I've already got a gut so I've got nothing to worry about

To me £7 ($10) is just the price of a magazine and a MacDonalds which would only last me an hour or so (and I'm paying £40 ($56) per month for my internet too (ADSL) though that's coming down to £30 per month in April). Also, there's only any point playing EQ if you're gonna put quite a bit of time into it, you wouldn't really get anything out of it if you just played it a bit. I haven't really touched all my other games since getting it (though I figure it'll balance out once some of the novolty wears off, or am I just being naive ).

What's D2, Diablo2?

I played D2 and Dark Age of Camelot (kinda like everquest, diffrent game but a pay per month game too). D2X I can't even look at again. It's like going to Diablo 1 after you play D2X. the price for these game's isn't toof ar out there. Most cool arcade games are 50 cents now, and if you play one of these games a day, you will spend more than if you play the pay-to-play online games. If you want to see what game play is like I put a huge post in "Daoc... is it worth it" forum.
There are good things that come with a pay-to-play too. the riff-raff can't get the cover charge... so the kids who just want to give greif aren't there (most of the time). There IS customer service. There isn't millions of people, so you can find your friends again and again (and for a guild ). If you are really into RPG gaming. you may want to check it out. it's something you want to research a bit first. you don't want to get the one that doesn't fit you (If you like mid-evil style don't get Anarchy Online). Ask questions to players of the game and specific questions that may raise up... Good questions are: Is there support, how is the game set up, Is there a free trial period, Is there Player Vs. Player (and effects of killing/being killed by a player). Stuff like that. Check out fan sites for screen shots. The offical game website is of-course going to have above avrage screen shots, fan sites wll have more normal screen shots.

I've played Everquest for around 7 months now. Since getting it most of my other games have become defunct. I love them all, its just that in EQ the community side of it is SUPERB. You have to be able to commuicate, persuade, trade, steal, lie, beg and cry to get ahead. There are some idiots in game but the in-game GamesMasters take care of things most of the times. Also if one person makes too much of a problem he/she gets blacklisted by the rest of the server (up to 2000 people). Once you have a reputation, it sticks =).
There are problems with patches/upgrades and overcrowding but these are being addressed as we speak.

Choose a low population server (30 or so to choose from).
Get a HIGH spec PC
Forget your real life friends

Remember 400000 people can't be wrong =)

"steal, lie, beg and cry to get ahead" - I don't agree with that bit but maybe it's a particular server/roleplay thing, I am still a bit of a newbie after all

"There are some idiots in game but the in-game GamesMasters take care of things most of the times" Plus there's the ignore list, I've only used it once when someone decided to do some trolling. I added them to my ignore list and to me they no longer existed (as long as our paths didn't cross). I think in cases like that, it's usually either someone using the free first month on a free copy of the game (off a magazine or something) or someone who's had enough of the game and wants to try to spoil some people's fun before they go.
