Systems 8KHA+ & XP1.4GHz will not run at 1.4GHz??

When I set the FBS to 133 and the Multi to 10.5 the machine starts to boot but crashes before it gets to windows.

Currently I am running FBS = 100, Multi = 10.5. But I have AMD XP1600+ = 1.4MHz.

Should I not be able to set the FBS to 133??

Is there another setting in the BIOS I need to be concerned about?

look on the board for a set of jumpers. in your case, it's called JCK1. set the jumpers to 2-3 not 1-2. and make sure that it's set to 133fsb in the bios.

edit: still can't find the jumpers? go to page 3-2 in the manual.

BTW: WELCOME to TechIMO!

I have tried this. That jumper just sets the minimum/default FBS value to 133. The machine still crashes.

yes and did you see if the memory setting in the bios is set to 133? better yet go into the bios and do a "load optimal default" hit F10 and restart.

can you list the you periferals? memory, PSU, HSF, thermal compound, ect...

gunslinger,
What type of memory are you using?
Have you tried other memory?
What are your CAS settings?
You might try 3,3,3.

The cpu might be bad.

First check all the jumpers and bios settings. It's quite easy to miss something. I don't know that board, without downloading the manual I could not tell you what all you might need to set.

I had a situation once where an simple cpu upgrade would not work untill I reinstalled windows.

Another possibility is a heat problem, it may just be getting too hot at the higher clock speeds.

If it's not heat, you could try increasing the core voltage a little at a time.

Yes Mem set at 133.

mem = Crucial 256mb
What is PSU/HSF??
Thermal compound = none (just a fan and heatsink)

You really need thermal compound these days, heat transfer is very critical. Go to Radio Shack and pick some up.

PSU= Power Supply Unit

HSF= HeatSink Fan

You need a good heat sink and fan to keep that puppy cool
