There should be nothing wrong with the NIC you have now on that computer.
From what i pulled off your specs.
1 x Network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX - RJ-45
It should be more than compatible.
There has got to be something else wrong in there.
Go here and reset your tcp/ip stack.
How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP
Or just click Start->Run->netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Next click->Start->Run->ipconfig /flushdns
Reboot your computer then try your speedtest again.
