Vista
I've heard multiple horror stories about vista? Any comments on it (pros/cons)?

There doesn't seem to be much middle ground with Vista, people either love it or hate it.The driver situation still has a ways to go,some older peripherals aren't supported very well, and there are still problems with older programs.A lot of vendors like Dell who had gone to selling their systems with Vista only have switched to making XP available as an option. There is a Service Pack coming before years end, maybe that will solve some of the problems. If you're a gamer, there's not much improvement over XP,other than having support for DX10,in some cases performance is actually a bit slower. And even the high end Creative sound cards don't perform much better than on-board sound under Vista. We're all going to have to make the switch eventually, since support will end for XP,Microsoft hasn't made clear when, but I think I'll wait until SP1 comes out and see how many problems are cleared up.

Creative just put out the control panel for my X-Fi card for Vista last month., and the drivers are so-so. But, I blame Creative for that. If I recall it took them almost a year to get decent drivers out for XP.
Otherwise, I haven't had any hardware or peripheral issues. Oldest peripheral is a Canon Pixma 6210D printer that's not even two years old. I did have to install a patch for the printer and do a firmware update for my Tripp-Lite UPS. Had no problems adding it into my network either.
I would suggest at least 2gigs of RAM to run it smoothly though. At least for Home Premium.

Vista isn't to bad.. i am running Vista Ultimate on a A64 3000+ @2.4ghz with 2 gig ddr400 and a nForce3a motherboard... basically Vista had all the drivers ... except i was running an older Sound Blaster Live card.. no drivers are avaliable.. so i took it out and the onboard sound actually works better..
i did have problems running my 7800gs agp , the fan would run about 75% to 100% instead of auto like xp .. but i did find some older nvidea drivers that seemed to help it out so far...
it takes a little while to get used to things and there are a ton of security things that pop up all the time.. still trying to figure it out...
I personally like it myself... even some software i use works for it... so far...
