Computer Dead? Help please!

Hi everyone,

Seems I got a computer problem.. a bad one.

First off its an old system ( built myself with not much knowledge in 2001).

Basic stats :
Antec case
Gigabyte mobo
Athlon 2000 chip
Windows xp pro
Geo 4200 ti vid card
512 memory (Bought as part of mobo combo @ MWave)
CRT monitor
Logitech USB keyboard and mouse

Now the problem :

The computer will not boot up. When you turn on computer nothing screen stays blank. Light stays yellow on monitor doen't go green. Light on mobo goes on. Light on usb keyboard mouse goes off. No beeps. One fan doesn't go on even though its good. Vid card fan doesn't appear to go on either.

What I have done :

Replaced psu with another one. (Problem stayed)
looked for bad capacitors or leakage( None apparent)
checked all connections.
took out cards and and uplugged conections and reconnected.

All the above yielded nothing.

Today I took out mem stick and replaced, Now i get 1 long beep in a cycle.

Any suggestiona are appreciated. Only fear I have is that files on my hard drive being wiped

At this point, I'd take everything out and then put it all back in.

Look real close for bad caps. I have gone through 2 or 3 Gigabyte boards and they've all had bad caps. Look really close around the CPU.

Excellent points, GrandMaster Rick. It sounds like your system board has died, slowhand..... GL and report backs to us.

LasVegasBarry is infamous around these parts
Sometimes a dead computer needs to be replaced

With all the problems you are having, and considering the age and quality of your components, you should just replace the computer. You can buy a modern computer with an lcd monitor, much faster multi corenew cpu, vastly improved mother board and video card for under five hundred dollars. Why waste your time fixing something which is obsolete? You are a long way from the computers of today when you use your ten year old computer with archaic components. Step up to the new world of computing.
