Locking the desktop wallpaper

Ok, when i goto lunch, another employee has to sit at my desk. He's ALWAYS changing my desktop wallpaper... i've asked him not too yet he still does cuz he doens't aprove of my wallpaper(it's nothing bad but he's a hardcore bible banger and doens't like anything)

My question:
How do i lock the wallpaper on a Win2k machine?

Edit: I don't use the "administrator" log on, i use my own, and i'll gladly limit my user account's rights

Just lock your workstation before you go to lunch. ctrl alt delete ...select lock workstation.

EDIT: After reading your post again....are you saying this other worker has to replace you and use your machine while your at lunch? If you are, you might just want to log out of your machine and force him to log on with his own account and not use yours. Is that possible?

that doesn't work, he "sometimes" needs to use my computer, and he knows my logon password.... he made a big deal out of that, that he sometimes needs to use this box when i'm at lunch

Change your logon password, and force him to use his own account.

Ithink what Tonto is asking is how to lock the settings on tthe box cause the guy has to sit at tonto's box but thinks that during lunch it is his box. therefore tonto has to f withthe box to get it back to his orig settings.

set thumper up with his own settings - acopy of yours - before he gets there - log your self out and him in - have it set up to look like your screen and when you get back, log him out - yourself back and keep going - should save you some stuff

I'd say talk it over with him. If you just lock the desktop it's going to create a prob with your work relationship. It could turn ugly. It might be best to just find something that works for both of you.

While this might be a slight incunvienence It would most likely be better then having big old arguments over it. Plus it will show him that you do understand his view somewhat, and your willing to try to do something to work through them.

There are some really awesome pics out their of just abstract shapes, places, and whatnot. And at home you do have your own PC that you can do whatever you want to.

In this registry key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\
Policies\ActiveDesktop

You should see a place to restrict changing the wallpaper. Just set it to a 1. You have to have the active desktop enabled though.

Here's a link that will give you the lowdown on every setting in that key.

I know what you mean

I have a clown here that uses my box - unfortunately he also took a Community Colledge course - 1 year - and worked 4 days in the field - what that translates to now is trying to keep him from efn the machine while I am not around. W95 - so I cannot protect anything.

funny - he admitted to me that his wife will not allow him to even open the box at home - he killed three machines - and during the course finished the job - Homer simpson is what he looks like.
sad but true

there must be a way to lock the display - I got it - hide all of the other options in the folder. just dump them - except yours. actualy rename the folder and copy yours backwards . ?
worth a try?

The point being is that the guy should not know your logon password. Having different accounts with different permission sets doesn't just protect the integrity of the network, but it also protects you too.

If someone knows your logon password they could do something which could end up getting you in trouble because the bosses would think you did it. I'm not saying this guy would do that, but any company and IT team worth their salt wouldn't allow this situation to exist.

I think you should get your password changed , keep the new password to yourself, and log out of your account when you go to lunch, forcing him to use his own account.

P.S. I don't think backgrounds are an object that you can assign permissions to. At least not the way you want to do it.
