Speeding up win ME

I'm trying to speed up ME and been using msconfig but it's not the same as win98 and everytime i bootup it says loading enviroment variables yadayada will be moved to registry and "you are using selective startup to troubleshoot your system". Am I doing this wrong MSCONFIG not the way to go in ME???? What about process config.sys and win.ini files. I was told to remove the checkmarks in win98. And of course I try to remove all the startup items that I can to save resources. Is there a better way than what I'm doing.
Thanks
swampy

Send a message via AIM to ChoaticWhisper
I thought it only says that Loading Enviroment.... stuff when you change the autoexec.bat file.
It only gives you the Selective startup thing when you change something in Msconfig.

You don't need the Config and Autoexec.bat files to load in ME.
The selective start up is normal on the first reboot after a change. Your doing it right. Just do another reboot and the message souldn't come up agin

On a windows box. The only thing I leave checked. (This is on the startup tab)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
system tray
scanreg
anitvirus
firewall (firewall if you use it or on cable. Off if you are on dial up)

All the rest I turn off. On ME if you use the restore feature built in you might want to leave it on. But it is a big resource hog. What I did was have it take a good record of my setup then I shut it off. Anything you download or install will not be in the go back files so you might want to turn it on once a week to update itself if you install a lot of programs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is on the general tab)
Just uncheck config.sys and autoexec.bat only. If you uncheck anything else it will cause problems.

How to speed up ME?
Snap the wrist as you fling the disk outward and remember to follow through.
Seriously,in 98se I just leave systray,scanreg and task manager(this helps Speedisk)

SPEED and ME in the same sentence?? WOW, that's a first I reckon!!

The 3rd party utilities seem to slow everthing down, even antiviruses. I only leave the bare minimum on, and load utilities only if I absolutely need them, then unload them again, rather than leave them running. Makes boot faster as well as loading other p[rpograms )(well, as fast as ME will go, anyway)
