Expensive Network Cables Cat 5e and Cat 6

Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables are expensive!! Are there any online vendors out there that anyone know of that sells cheap cat 6 cables?

I use to work for a big electronic store and with employee discount a 50ft cat5e would cost me under 3 bucks w/tax 4 years ago!
Now I'm not looking for the same price, atleast something more reasonable than 20 buck!

Why are they still this expensive?!?!

Cat5e cable prices are heavily tied to copper prices (cost of the material goods) and availability. Copper has gone up over the past few years.

You should be able to find 50ft Cat5's around $5 online though.

Shawn, many items under twenty bucks often have very high mark-ups. Products under ten bucks will have two to three hundred percent mark-up. Just go to your nearest Compusa and ax one of their salesman. Typically the consumer does not shop these low cost items and the retailer or etailer needs to earn so much per square foot.

I bought 1000 ft of Cat5e for $89.00
I buy the RJ45 jacks for .29c each.
I good cable crimper is $50.00

I make my own cables and save a lot. Although this probably isn't practical for the day to day user.
