amd sempron vs intel pen 4

The pen 4 has been out for a while. How does the sempron stand up to the pentium 4. I can not find a way of how to measure the performance between the two.

We can race 2 cars and find a winner, but how do we look at performance?

Processors are usually compared using benchmarks. Software testing programs that record a speed comparison. Also when talking about Semprons, there are several versions that use different sockets, socket A, socket 754 and AM2, that I know of. They are all going to benchmark differently.

Here is an article from Tom's Hardware that is pretty comprehensive. It is 28 pages long. I guess the article doesn't go up to the new chips that use the AM2 socket.

Interesting about the socket, because I just helped a friend buy the low end Dell desk top. They did not give me disclosure about the socket. They just say the computor has a AMD Semprone.
Thanks for the input

A Sempron is the economy version of the AMD line. Much like the Celeron is the economy version of the Intel line.
That being said the Sempron is unquestionably superior to the Celeron.

If the Dell you're talking about is a C521 it does have the latest socket AM2. No guarantees but it may be able to run a much faster cpu.
