Can't find XP Bluetooth Stack after removing Toshiba Stack
This is the problem I'm having:
1) I have a blackberry wireless device that can synch with bluetooth capable computers. However, it will ONLY be compatible with the embedded Microsoft Bluetooth stack in XP w/SP2.
2) The Laptop I am tryin to synch it with is a Sony, which ships with the XP stack disabled and a third party Toshiba Bluetooth stack enabled.
3) After this is removed as is required by the Blackberry, the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack still doesn't show up.
Okay, that's the fundamental basis of the problem. Now for some background info on what I've learned so far through much searching:
1) Microsoft will NOT offer technical support on how to reactivate their bluetooth stack for windows XP unless the OS was bought retail, but of course this was OEM, therefore I can't get their input.
2) Sony continually just defers me back to the Toshiba Bluetooth stack. After countless emails and calls trying to get them to understand I cannot use it, they still ramble off the same answers to me as if they are robots, and they will not give me information as to where or how to download the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack.
3) I have located the bth.inf and bth.PNF files that are related to the Microsoft Bluetooth stack in the C:/Windows/inf folder. However I'm not sure what--if anything--needs to be modified with those in order to reactivate the bluetooth stack.
4) When trying to use the run command "bthprops.cpl" nothing comes up, further showing that the bluetooth stack from xp is not enabled.
So, unless somebody has a more technically advanced solution, I fear my only options are to either remove SP2 and reinstall it thereby reinstalling the Bluetooth Stack embedded in the SP2 update, or buy a retail copy of Microsoft XP w/SP2 to install the utility separately. I've tried to find the uninstall package for SP2 before, and had no luck with the directions I found.
Does anybody know ANYWHERE I can just find a download for the bluetooth stack independantly? Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.
