i have a toshiba labtop..it says operatiing system not found..its suppose to be designed for windows me but i only have a windows 98 or windows xp discs..and when i force boot the cd it sayssetup cannot install windows, an error was detected while formatting your primary hard disk partition..any1 kno what i can do..
Which CD are you booting from? If it's the 98, it won't install over ME. You'll have to just boot to a Command Prompt and do a normal FORMAT C: and then you could setup 98. Is your XP disc legit and bootable?
Well your xp cd should work but you cannot register it, because it will be an OEM copy that came with your desktop, so that will not work. For the laptop you need to boot into the command prompt like evil rick said and type in "format c" after that then you can install the new operating system. If that doesn't work you are left to buy a new hard drive. Also I reccomend you buy a retail version of XP at new egg or a local staples/office max so that you are able to use that cd key to register it.
correction u can us the XP cd but u have to boot the cd u will be able to register the xp cd but it wont be genuine after installing win xp u will get this 30 day activation. call microsft and just tell them its ur first time installing xp thann they will give u that activation code but be warned i didnt tell u this lol and uhm... also u wont be able to download genuine stuff from microsoft.
