IPODS and such

Charley Rose.com and Nightline both can be viewed on the pc, Being video there doesn't seem to be a way to "save" the broadcast. What type of equipment do I need and how to I use it? I have been told I probably need to buy an IPOD. Is this correct and is what brand is recommended? Do I need special software to "save' these broadcasts for later viewing?

I've only done this using Firefox.

Go to Firefox Add-ons and pick which one you want to use to strip the videos from websites. There are some that specialize in Google and YouTube and others do just about any embedded video.

I have one I use, but it's on my browser at work and I for the life of me can't remember what it is. I looked through about four pages on the add-on link I posted but didn't see it. I think you'll have good luck with some of those though and get what you want.

I downloaded the first on the list (unplug) and then went to the nightline website. What do I do next? I didn't get any popup box, etc to ask if I wanted to save the video. If I can learn how to save it, will the video be viewable on any computer? Sorry for being so dense but this is very unfamiliar territory to me

This is what I use at work, but it won't work on Nightline. I use it on YouTube.

Nightline uses Flash Video, you need an FLV Player and then a ripper. I saw the UnPlug found the .SWF videos, but it won't download them.

We're close.

I need more background information, ie definitions. Is FLV player hardware or software? Ripper? I'm using XP Pro if that determines what I need to download or buy.

FLV Player is a software player. I use VLC for just about everything, but I don't think it'll actually play the .flv files.

By a "ripper", I mean software that will actually download the streamed video. The software needed is kind of like man-in-the-middle as it intercepts the stream and caches it on your hard drive. It is then saved in a format that can be played at your leisure.

Is there a software version (ripper) that you can recommend for download or purchase?

I didn't find anything that would work on Nightline's site. I tried a few from the Firefox Add-on page. You'll probably have to wait until somebody comes along or try over on TechIMO.com.
