Pioneer 106s

Whats the difference between the 106s and 106s/2?

From what I've seen, the only difference is that the 106s/2's faceplate doesnt have any writting on it. It looks generic.

Also, post your comments on the drive if you have it.

Just bought the 106S/2 last night from newegg. Can't wait to get it. I couldn't figure out the difference either ... checked Pioneer's website and they don't have the 106S/2 listed at all. Wanted to konw the differences myself. All the read features (speed, cache) are the same between the two, the only difference is in the picture.
edit - This was post #500 for me

I was looking at newegg too. For $60 + 8 shipping it looks pretty good. They had (sold out) the 106s for $75 + shipping.

Anyways...anyone know if there is a difference other than the faceplate??

I've had the 106S (not the /2 version) for about a year. No problems at all. Have it's older brother, the 104S on an older machine, about 2 1/3 years wear-and-tear, no problems there either.

Can't comment on any difference between 106S and 106S/2... sorry.

How loud is this thing?

I've heard that all slot loads are considerable louder. But w/ the software you can slow it down. When viewing a DVD at 1x is it really quiet?

Thanks

edit - i cant spell

To be totally honest, I've never really noticed any noise. My 106S is as quiet (maybe more quiet) than my Plextor CD-RW, which is a tray-loaded drive.

I haven't been looking at DVD players since I bought my 106S last summer, but it could just be a minor faceplate change.

I like it. It's a pretty quiet drive, has been very reliable for me.

I sent an email to Pioneer last night, so I hope to hear back from them soon.
