CPU question

I'm getting ready to buy a new computer and I want to try AMD.

I currently have a 3 gig P4, and i'm looking at an AMD 64 X2 4400. Now that CPU I believe clocks at 2 gigs, but i'm told it's not really a downgrade because it's a superior card.

Any suggestions? I know nothing about AMD but i've heard they are great.

You are correct though, clock-for-clock coparison between Intel and AMD chips are incorrect and ridiculous, because the architectures are different

The 4400 X2 is an awesome chip, and assuming that you couple it with a quality board, you'll get great results (it is by far superior to the P4 you are currently running)

and a little something to ease the pain of CPU selection (its updated semi-frequently)
