CANNOT connect via dsl

Hi i'm jim...I have a dell running win xp, dsl is operational according to the isp...they show me online...when i tell them it will not connect they say go to start..then go to show all connections and look for the LAN connection...it's not there...so then i have to go to system then to the device manager and then network something but it's not there either but i do have an "other" catagory in which is listed "ethernet controller"...apparently it is not working...they tell me to uninstall it then restart so it will find new hardware and install it, which it does but ends up not being able to find software for it either on the system or the internet and it goes right back into the "other" catagory in the manager. so...my hands are tied...i need ideas...thanks for anything you can do...jim

It sounds like you need to provide an ethernet driver.

Try the Dell website. If you need help, contact Dell support.

thanks for your help...it was a problem with the ethernet outlet on the motherboard...a new one solved the problem
