computer wont start

asrock k7vt2
via kt266a chipset
amd athlon xp 2000+ processor
256 ddr 2700 ram
gforce4 agp graphics card
120gb hard disk

i have got usb v1.1 card in my comp cause the onboard one was giving me trouble so i turned it off and have not used it for a long time now. my comp was working ok till i changed the setting in the bios to turn the usb back on with the usb card still in the pci slot and when i excepted to save the changes it never restarted and still dont. the psu fans and cpu fan both spin but the comp does nothing else. i thought it might b the psu cause it had loads of dust on it so i cleaned it and i took the cpu fan off to clean as well. i took the cpu out to check and it looked ok so i put it back together but now the cpu and psu fans come on for about 5 secs then just shut back off and i have to unplug it to try and restart it again but still does the same thing. i done all the usual stuff like strip it down to bare bones and still will not start. pls can someone help me cause it doin my head in knowing what it could be.

My guess would be a short somewhere in the onboard USB ports. Try unplugging those from the motherboard, and see what happens.

Actually, I was tired last night when I posted that, and was thinking the USB ports on the case for some reason.

About the only thing I can think of is to try clearing the CMOS (using the instructions provided in your motherboard manual), although this is unlikely to work.

You can also try pulling all of your memory and see if it'll beep at you; if it does, there's some hope (something else has failed), and if it doesn't, you're not getting power to the MB for some reason. At that point, I'd first look at the PSU (if you have another one, try hooking that one up).

Unplug the computer, pull all PCI cards, wait about 5 minutes and plug it back in and try again.

Sounds like a shorting issue quite frankly

Try pulling the battery out of the motherboard, unplugging the computer from the wall, leaving it for about 3-5 minutes, replace both, and start it. Perhaps something else in the CMOS got messed up.
