can not read cd

I use have a cd-rw that can not be read. I put it in the computor and it never opens. It also slows down the computor. Is there a way I can force this disk to open? I want the info that is on it.

I'm not sure if you can "force" it to open. Sounds like it may be corrupted. Can you try it in a friends computer?

I will try anythng such as that. If it is corrupt is there a way to get the info out of it. It went bad when I tried to eject it one time in Roxio. Roxio always prepares the disc but this time it was a very strange eject. I sort of knew somthing bad had happened.

Roxio isn't very reliable and has screwed up many of my data discs. I now use Sonic and Nero instead.

Is that so? I thought the burner which is pacific digital external would be the main concern not the software. I am not a computor major so I do not understand how the software such as Roxio could be giving people trouble. Anyhow I do need a reliable way of making backups , this so far is not good. I will try to find Sonic.

How about those cleaners on the market, do they work. I read that toothpaste is a myth.
