Food Recommendations Please on an LCD Monitor

I am in the process of making a list of the components I want to buy for a new rig. What LCD monitors would you recommend and why. Not only will I be doing the standard Office stuff but also video and picture editing, and gaming.

My price range is from $150 to $250 and if need be $300. Thanks.

cant advise on a specific model, but:
go for 19" if you got the money (17" price is on the rise and 19" is dropping), samsung panels are said to be good (they make the panels and the monitor itself). the dell 19" lcd's also got very good reviews.
look for low response time (16ms or less) and good contrast stability.

since you'll do gaming picture and video (lcd's are really not meant for those tasks), at least concider a hi end crt (like the MAG 786FD - awesome monitor) - they are a lot better at color reproduction and there is no ghosting in gaming or video.

good luck

Hmmm, I was thinking of a CRT but they are becoming harder to find though certainly not rare. I knew a few years back that the LCDs were not great for gaming and video but I didn't know it remained the case till this day.

proves my point... go for a hi-end CRT (19") that can run 1600:1200@75 at least

tbds, I am looking for CRTs but having some difficulty even with the more respected online sights. Still will look though.

look for a monitor that uses the Sony Trinitron Tube (with Appreture Grille), or the Mitsubishi Diamondtron (M2 I think) tube - those 2 are the best of CRTs.

manufacturers - does not make that big of a difference since the tube is the only important part
