Systems Quick Restore Issues.. Please help..

Alright this is what happened and hopefully someone can help me or guide me through to fixing a problem I am having...

I have a Compaq Presario 5050 that runs Windows 98, well I was running into some problems with it so I decided to run the Quick Restore to put it back to store bought status... well that didn't work out to my advantage, it got half through the Restore and froze and would no longer read the disk for some odd reason... well there was nothing else I could do but turn off the computer and start it back up and try again but that didnt seem to work either and only ran me into more problems and not being able to get onto Windows PERIOD.

So now... when I power up my system (without any boot disk) I still get the normal Compaq screen and then the Windows 98 screen flashes for not even a second then it gives me:

Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Menu

1. Normal
2. Logged (\BOOTLOG TXT)
3. Safe Mode
4. Step-by-Step Confirmation
5. Command Prompt Only
6. Safe Mode Command Prompt Only

Warning: Windows has detected a registry/configuration error.
Choose, Command Prompt Only and run SCANREG

*from that point I am not familiar on how to RUN anything and I'm not really familiar as far as commands go*

Then when I do choose, Command Prompt only I get a screen like this:

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
There is an error on you CONFIG.SYS file on line 1

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE
There is an error on you CONFIG.SYS file on line 2

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CPQIDECD.SYS
There is an error on you CONFIG.SYS file on line 3

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CPQIDECD.SYS
There is an error on you CONFIG.SYS file on line 9

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\DBLBUFF.SYS

The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\IFSHELP.SYS

Warning: The high memory area (HMA) is not available.
Additional low memory (below 640k) will be used instead.
File not found
Cannot find WIN.COM, unable to continue loading Windows

C:\

*Since I have no clue on what to do from there I turn off the system and put the boot disk into the the floppy disk drive and then start it back up*

From that point it loaded back up and it gave me a blue screen:

Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Menu

1. QuickRestore
2. Virus Scan
3. Diagnostics
4. Exit to DOS

* I, of course want to run the Quick Restore but when I choose to do so a message comes up at the bottom of that list like so:

ATAPI IDE CD-ROM device driver Version V 1.23A
Unit 1, MASTER IRQ 15, I/O address 0x017

Then it gives me a black screen that tells me to "PLEASE INSERT QUICK RESTORE CD" spamming it continuously until I do so and when I do I get a message that says:

CDR101: Not ready reading drive N
Abort, Retry, Fail?

* Or sometimes I'll get a screen like this:

MSCDEX Version 2.25
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp. 1986-1995. All Rights Reserved.
Drive N:= Driver IDECD001 Unit 0

CDR101: Not ready reading drive N
Abort, Retry, Fail?

* I dont remember seeing a drive N on my system what so ever when it was running which is why I am stumped completely...*

---------------------
I'm really desperate for help. I'm hoping the system is still good and there is a way for me to get into it and be able to actually run it again... All help is greatly appreciated...

Dreanna,

Since you've received no replies as yet [I myself have never used a Compaq nor used Win98 for years], I'm going to refer you to our very active tech forum at http://www.techimo.com/forum/index.html.

You've provided a very well-detailed post for getting lots of help. I propose that you post the below specifically in our Tech Support forum:

Good luck!
