Backup utility

I wanted to back up my system state because I have to delete some things in my registry caused by adware. So can I back it up to a folder in my computor then burn that file to a cd. I tried to back it up straight to a cd but I can't get it to work. Maybe the problem is my burner is external.

So is it ok to do it in 2 steps, the way I explained. And if so am I now protected from deleting the wrong things in my registry?

I'm a bit confused. You want to back up your system state Do you mean you want to back up your entire hard drive, or just back up some files. If you want to back up just some files then your cd burner is fine. Backing up your entire system is a little more complex. You can either use some third party backup software or make an image of your hard drive. If you're using Windows XP, then you can revert to a previous setting. To do that you click on 'start' 'help and support' then under the 'Pick a Task' section click 'undo changes to your computer with system restore'

To get rid of this back door virus, Norton says to back up the registry. SO i used back up utility and saved the file to a folder on my comutor then I burnt the file to a cd for storage, in case I mess up the registry.

Need to know if I am in good shape in case I delete the wrong things. I never did this before and have low confidence in myself.

So you've already backed up your registry? You should be ok. Honestly, I never backup my registry if I have a virus. I let Mcafee take care of the virus for me. You should be able to just let Norton delete the virus for you.
