is PC3200 compatible with PC2700?

Memory modules seem to be usually backward compatible with computers that are one generation older. I have a Dell 700m laptop that has PC2700 RAM installed. Would PC3200 modules work on this machine? Thanks in advance.

In short yes.

Long, It all depends on if the memory itself is compatible. PC3200 or 2700 naming convetion is just what the memory is tested to, not the actual speed that it has to run. If you install it into a machine that supports PC2700 then your 3200 RAM will just run at PC2700 speeds.
