Freezeing after installing ram?

Hey guys, I just recieved a PQI pc3200 2 gig dual channel kit. When I installed it, the system recognized it right away and everything ran super smooth, I was surfing the web about 10 minutes later when my computer just froze. I've been testing it out and it doesnt do it if I switched my old ram back in, only when i put the new ram in. Anyone have any ideas?

I run a AMD 64 3000+, Epox 8kda3j motherboard with 3 DIMM/ at ddr 400.

Have you tested the new RAM?

i would download memtest (they have a version that is an ISO that you can burn to cd and boot it that way if you don't have a floppy drive).

first, test your PQI memory 1 stick at a time, pulling out one stick while you run the test, then swapping them out int he same memory slot if the first stick passes the tests.

if neither stick alone failes, put them back to dual channel config and run the tests again. if that fails, test them one at a time again, but this time in the RAM slot you didn't use int he first test.

if that passes, put both sticks in the board in a non-dual channel configuration (look at the manual for which slots pair to be dual channel and which run as seperate channels)

if no matter how you test it, they pass as single sticks or 2 sticks in non-dual channel, but only fail in dual channel config, then the memory is not paired and PQI needs to replace the kit with a truely paired set.

on the other hand, this whole process can be shortened if you find that a single stick fails, then you know you have a bad stick.

on a side note, it is possible one of your RAM slots is bad. if a stick passes by itself in one slot, and fails in another, then you know which one.

good luck!
