ATX 2.0 PSU's

So, I got a system. It's not installing WinXP. I'm swapping parts left and right. The PSU is next. Here's where I need help. The mobo says it needs a ATX 2.0 compliant PSU. I don't have an extra one to swap in there to see if the PSU is bad.

Can I put in a non ATX 2.0 PSU with minimal components installed and not have a problem? What is it about ATX 2.0 that a mobo needs? BTW it's the Abit "Fatality" AN8.
