Are the new AMD 64 Revision E cpu's worth waiting for? I'm ready for a new system, what is the end benefit of the new instruction sets to users?

Depends upon what you do. In general, I'd so it's not worth it.

You can always upgrade later.

The system will be primarily for gaming and the internet.

The big deal with Rev. E CPUs is addition of SSE3. There are few games and virtually no web browsers which take advantage of these additional instructions.

If I were you, I'd go with what is cheap now.

I'd wait, because you can either get the Rev. E (also known as Venice) or get a Winchester at a really good price. In addition, Venice will really overclock well.

I think I will wait,it's only a couple of weeks before they're available where I plan to have my system built, and the price is only about $20.00 more than the current models.

Overclocking to 3.0 ghz isn't happening with the Venice like everyone thought.

People are lucky if the get 2.7 ghz so winny is still ok.

With what CPU? Me, I'm only going to get a 3000+ and push it to 2.65GHz, or the speed of the 3500+(with 50 more MHz).

I'm going to a 4000+,never been comfortable trying overclocking,so that's not much of a factor.

The 3000+ is clocked at 1.8 Ghz so 2.65 Ghz would be a huge overclock. The 3500+ is clocked at only 2.2Ghz.

So 2.65 Ghz x 1.6 = 4200+ basically looking at a 4200+ or 4.2 Ghz in Intels world.

4200+ would rock!!!
