PCI-E express..and Athlon XP, socket A

i am assuming that you can't get a PCI-E MB that uses a socket A cpu.. as i have been looking, but can't find one..

what type of cpu would i have to upgrade to , to use a PCI-E board ??

seems that you can get plenty of "used" 6600GT's PCI-E, but the AGP versions "used" are hard to find...

any one have any ideas..?

The latest P4 and Athlon64/Sempron/Opteron boards are all PCI-Express.

AGP still has plenty of breath in it, so there's no hurry to upgrade.

Nope, no Socket A boards w/ PCI-E. You would need to go to either: Socket 478(?), 754 (on select ones, few), 939 (most of them, look for nVidia nForce4), and LGA 775. I assume you know what processors go with each one.

Yeah, i really don't want to upgrade.. but it seems pretty easy to pick up a 6600gt PCI-E vid card "used" at a good price compared to an AGP versions which is few and far between.... but i want to keep all my hardware, cpu, ram , etc... but just want to replace the MB if possible...

oops., you beat me to the punch... hmm, well, no upgrade then... don't feel like replacing the cpu etc...

Good choice. Keep your AGP as long as you can.
