Ati 9600 pro giving me fits.....HELP!!!

Hey guys hope you can help me out,
Okay here' s the prob......whenever i play a 3d game ie need for speed underground or GTA 4 .....i can play for 5 minutes the my screen goes black and the system locks up.

here's my system specs:
AMD semp 2200+
pc3200 , 512 megs of ram
80 gig samsung hd
Aopen km400-8237 mobo
Ati 9600 pro
400 watt PSU

Also when i bought the card new it had a tiny heatsink/fan on there sooo i replaced wit a orb like heatsink combo , thing is that the heatsink interferred with the pci slot and made the heatsink loss contact with the GPU chip on the card no display with 2 short beeps and a long beep , beep code, so i replaced it with the stock fan and it booted and displayed. So i bought a small replacement fan and it seemed to work fine , but now i can't seem to play 3d games for long without it locking up on me

I hope i didn't damage the vid chip , cuz this card rocks.....and it is only 1 week old...any suggestions and questions are welcome cheers and talk to you laters

make sure the new hsf is making contact with the core... did you apply any AS5 or thermal paste, also make sure it is compatable with your card, and will cool it enough.. could be overheating...

Yah i thought it might be overheating also, but the replacement fan i have on there is compatible with 9600 pro and also a few other cards. But the fan/heatsink is not copper either, but yes it is well seated on the chip......i am paraniod about frying stuff (killed 2 p3's already). Also my case has 4 case fans and i did clean up some the messy wires and cables , my case temp rarely goes over 35 c and my cpu stays steady at 34 c under load .

Still i am going to look at getting a better vga cooler as this one seems to not be doing the job.I am going to replace the two 80 fans in the front with one big 120 .

Anywho gotta go
