I am looking to purchase a power protection device for my new computer. The computer has a 430 power supply. It will be used for DV editing. I will hook up a scanner, 2 printers, DVD burner, and other firewire connections. Can you tell me what basic specs I need in an UPS? What brands or products recommended? Thanks in advance.
I have an 800VA Belkin that I run 2 desktop computers and two 17" monitors on. Works fine. Many of them say not to hook up printers to them. A UPS is more for allowing you time to complete an orderly shutdown and save your work than for running the equipment on. Usually you have anywhere from 5 -20 minutes to complete your work before the UPS runs out of power, but this depends on the size UPS you have.
Would you say, then, that an 800VA is more than sufficient for my computer and monitor? Or could I go for even less?
p.s. I have seen on-line articles talking about not buying low grade power protectors. But I have found no way of discerning what brands are great from those that are not.
Here are a few I have found: Dell.com At newegg At tigerdirect
